The WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits course is ideal for individuals who wish to deepen their understanding of spirits and liqueurs in an informative and structured manner.
This course covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category. Students will develop high level analytical tasting skills while also exploring the use of spirits in cocktails. The product knowledge gained on this course will be a significant advantage to those working with spirits in both the on- and off-trade.
The WSET Level 2 involves a study programme which covers the following:
- How spirits are made
- The characteristics of the main styles of spirits and liqueurs
- How production methods affect style and quality
- The major global spirits brands
- Tutored tastings of around 40 spirits and liqueurs
- How to taste and describe spirits using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)
Students completely new to spirits study may wish to complete the Level 1 Award in Spirits first. However, this is not essential.
You will be expected to read the provided text book prior to commencing the course.
The exam takes place in the last session of the course. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be completed in one hour. To pass you must correctly answer 55% of the questions.
Timings: Three-day course, from 8:45am to 5:15pm each day, providing in-depth global wine knowledge supported by tasting 40+ wines from around the world.
Fees include: study materials, a box of ISO tasting glasses, all samples, tuition and WSET examination (plus WSET certificate and lapel pin for those who pass).
Students should allow private study time of around 20 hours.
